Daybook for Monday, June 29, 2015

 

For Today... Monday, June 29th, 2015 (already!)

 

I love finding heart shaped sea glass!

Outside my window... Foggy and dreary!!  It is quite cool today, and breezy, but it looks like the sun is trying to peek through the clouds.  My windows are covered in salt this morning, as the wind was from the ocean last night.  I am surprised how far it carries!

 

I bought a pink flamingo to irritate my dh.  He insisted I get another, if you watch the movie "Gnomeo and Juliet" you can find out why!

I am thinking... Too many things, and that is never a good thing.  One thing at a time, maybe two.  But more than that, and I don't cope well! 

 

Ebony is growing more and more each day!

 

I am thankful...For a hubby that understands how to help me through anxiety even though it is hard on him as well.  Sometimes I don't feel like he is helping, but he really is.  I am also thankful for God who loves me and helps me through the days when I seem to do everything wrong.

I am wearing... Navy capris, turquoise blue T shirt and a long, grey cable knit sweater over top to keep off the chill.   

I am creating... The next craft plan for the Kids Club at church and a secret project I can't say anything about yet. 

I am going... To the store to pick up some large bags for freezing chickens in, to finish organizing Devin's museum, to weed the vegetable garden, and to put the mulch down where we are planting the new perennial garden.

I am wondering... What and how to say something to someone.  Or if I should say anything at all. 

I am reading... Country Life Magazine, I have a stack of them to read before they are due back at the library.  I am also starting to read "Pioneer Girl, The Annotated Autobiography, Laura Ingalls Wilder, you can read more about it HERE.

 

I am hoping... This headache goes away.  I have felt awful today and yesterday, hormonal, weak, teary and achy.  I am so tired, and need more sleep than I am getting.  Problem is I keep catching my second wind after 8:00 PM and then figure I can stay up late.  Not so!!

I am learning... About butchering chickens.  I was hoping we would find someone local to do this for us, but upon researching, we think it is doable ourselves.  Though not pleasant really, we have raised these chickens with love and respect and it is much better than how they would be treated from a factory farm. 

 

In my garden...The rhododendron is flowering and the heavy rain knocked most of the blossoms off the orange azalea, which has been so pretty this year!  We have been picking radishes, rhubarb and spring onions.  We are finished spreading the soil in the new perennial bed, and I have planted lilac, hosta, a beautiful purple rose bush, a burning bush, and several plants we have picked up from a yard sale.  I hope to get more lilac, as they are one of my very favourites! I am now picking up gravel so we can grass in the areas along the interceptor where it is hard ground from the tractor driving on it.

French breakfast radishes are really great, and I have the most success with them than the plain red radishes.

 

In my kitchen... I need to make room in the freezer for the 6 chickens we have, and they are all quite large!  So I will be trying to cook as much as I can and reorganizing that so we can get the chickens in.  I won't need to buy chicken for a while!  I am also hoping to get my hands on some local strawberries soon and make some freezer jam.  My daughter was over on the weekend, and she baked lots of muffins and thumbprint cookies, so we are set for baking as long as I can keep my hubby away from it! 

In the homeschool room... Finished official school for the summer!  I have filed my reports and registration so now I just need to wait to hear back from the board of education.

A peek into one of my days...

 

Lots of snake catching going on around here!  This is a ring necked snake, he is very cute...for a snake!

 

One of my favorite things... Since I mentioned the autobiography of Laura Ingalls Wilder above, one of my very favourite things is Little House on the Prairie.  I love the books, and the show is one of my top two favourites, right next to The Waltons.  I have so many favourite episodes, the one where they go camping with the Oleson family is one of my favourites, as well as the Christmas specials.  As for the books, I think I will read them again, you are never too old to enjoy Little House!

Post Script...Wow, I just love THIS BLOG I came across!!! This challenge is terrific!  I can relate to these bloggers, and am thrilled to see the honesty and the openness of these bloggers!  It is okay to not have a perfectly clean, magazine worthy home, it is okay to be who you are, and I hope she does this challenge again!

The Simple Woman's Daybook for Monday June 22

 

For Today... Monday, June 22nd

Outside my window... It has been overcast and drizzly all day, now it has gotten very cool and windy, and the sun is breaking through the clouds.

 

 

A dewy, misty morning makes the lady's mantle look so beautiful!

 

 

Woolly thyme.

I am thinking... In order to keep myself and my family sane, I need to consider letting go of a relationship in my life, with a family member.  It is hard, it is unfair I have to even be considering it. But you can only be under someone's thumb and their doormat for so long. I love this person very much, but I can't handle the stress any more.

I am thankful...To have gotten my home school report and registration done today, it took me all day and I am tired.  I just hope now that they are prepared properly, and they are given the green light!

I am wearing... A long denim skirt, Birkenstocks and a grey 3/4 length sleeve jersey knit shirt.

I am creating... Ideas for a cabinet found at the side of the road, as well as a small stained table found on the goods exchange weekend.  Photos on that on another post.

I am going... To my daughter's house to help take care of her pet rats, she is away right now.  I am also going to clean my son's bedroom with his help.  Never to early to start decluttering! I usually do that if they are out for a bit, but this time, he is going to be making decisions.

I am wondering... How to forgive and forget when someone does not change.  I can forgive, but that hard part is not allowing the hurt to continue.

I am reading... "The $50 Home Makeover" by Shaunna West. A really neat book with ideas to turn anything into something creative. It has a vintage feel to it which I love!

I am hoping... To be more organized to pop by all your blogs and leave comments this week!  I have been by and read them all....just too rushed to write.  I like to write long comments it seems!

 

 

I felt almost exactly like this snail today, slow and upside down!

 

I am learning... To block out the noise swirling in my head and listen to God's voice.  He is the only One who truly knows what is going on, and what to do. In order to hear His voice, we have to calm ourselves and be still long enough to let Him work.

In my garden... My rhododendron is about to flower, and this year, there are more than two flowers! The radishes are going entirely crazy, and the pumpkins and squash are popping up.  Unfortunately, so is the stinging nettle that has been introduced by some soil.  A bright orange azalea is flowering ( forgot to get a pic this morning) and the comfrey and Siberian iris are flowering.  Our huge yard project is closer to getting finished, and part of it is now going to be a perennial garden if I can keep the deer and weeds out if it.

In my kitchen... We are having leftover lasagna, I made it for my dh for Father's day, it is his favourite.  My son made a chocolate cake with me and if there is a piece of that I may snag it too.  I have bananas waiting to be baked into muffins or cupcakes.

 

 

A treat for the dogs...pupsicles.  Plain yogourt with a biscuit in the middle and frozen.  They LOVE them!

 

 

 

In the homeschool room... We are done!  Reports are ready to be sent out and registration is ready for next year.

 

 

 

 

Progress in the yard!  All the rock is laid out now, we are slowly adding mulch and the grass is starting to grow.

It is a sad quote.  But it is so very true.  Whenever I read it, my heart just sinks into my feet. But it is one of my favourite quotes because it helps me to think of others and how I can do small things to help people feel that they aren't alone and forgotten.  Everyone is important! 

 

A peek into one of my days... Today was a bad day. Just one of those days when things go crazy and I don't handle any of it well.  Oh I try to find the sense of humour in it, but today, I just struggled. My dh brought me flowers to pick me up!

We did catch this hideous clam worm.  It was the most awful thing, jaws like an alien, and weird hairs all up the sides.  And when it swam it was even more disgusting!  Blech!  It was about a foot long.

 

 

One of my favorite things... Hopping out of a hot bath before I get into bed, and sitting on the deck to cool off.  Once the June bugs leave, maybe I can do that again!  They are one of my least favourite things!

For Today... Monday, June15th

 

 

More lilacs from my hubby!

Outside my window... I am typing this Monday evening.  The day has been bright and sunny with puffy white clouds and about 20 Degrees Celsius. Now it is quite cool, and the peepers will soon start singing, though there are not as many now.  Rain is coming tomorrow.  They are also saying thunderstorms...I will believe that when I see it!

I am thinking... About my daughter, son in law and grandson as they are away visiting family in Ontario. Sometimes visiting family is challenging when people have been hurt by words and opinions.

I am thankful...That I did not get injured more severely the other day while gardening.  A solid metal 3 pronged cultivator whipped up after rolling a rock onto the handle, and the prong cracked me in The forehead.  Devin took a look at my head and told me we needed to go inside.  I put my hand on it, and there was a lot of blood.  I came in and got it stopped, it was more of a contusion, and a big ole goose egg to boot.  It is on the mend, but is it ever sore!  I am so thankful it wasn't worse!

 

 

 

Be wise as an owl....don't leave rakes, or cultivators lying around!!

I am creating... Ideas for a craft for the next kids club at church, ideas for some furniture I want to distress, and still trying to get some things started for a friend. 

I am going...To cut the grass at my daughters.  To get back into my walking workouts as they really help keep the anxiety down.  To step up the puppy training.  To work in the garden and put down mulch once the rainy weather leaves.  To work on my home school reports and registration for next year.

I am wondering... Why people insist you need to forgive, yet are unable to take their own advice. 

I am reading... Romantic Prairie Style, by Fifi O'Neill.  Really great book with lots of vintage ideas!

 

 

 

 

I am hoping...That even though my daughter and her wee family are only going to be gone a week that the rest of their time is wonderful and they have a safe trip home.  And they have a good thunderstorm while they are there!

 

 

 

I love old chippy windows and Peggy's Cove has lots of them!

 

 

 

A really nice little artisan shop at Peggy's Cove called "Hags on the Hill".  I bought a hand woven mug mat here.

 

I am learning...That no matter how much you may hope people will change and see the truth, sometimes they just don't.  And you need to move on and stop the cycle of hurt and disappointment.

In my garden...Things are really starting to sprout now!  And we decided to try to put in a big perennial bed in the yard, where we were going to plant grass.  I hope it works, as we need to hold that bank together.

Veggies are growing, lots of radishes, rhubarb, onions and potatoes, and the carrots, peas and beans are starting.

Devin made this little garden in a garden, and he put this old rickety chair in it!  It is so cute!

 

 

 

Here's the progress so far, we decided to make part of this into a perennial garden, so we lucked out and found a lady holding a plant sale, and got some plants really cheap, and I can split some of my hosta, etc.

 

 

In my kitchen...Tonight I made perogies and salad, and I made two batches of muffins today, banana blueberry and banana chocolate chip.  I would like to make a chocolate cake......

 

In the homeschool room...Reports are due at the end of the month as well as registration for next year.  We are finishing up odds and ends as we feel like it.  This momma is ready for a break!

A peek into one of my days...

 

I am not sure how this will turn out on my blog, but this is a beautiful day ( yesterday) at Peggy's Cove.  My hubby and I were out antiquing and junking!

 

One of my favorite things...Tea, a good cup of hot tea, winter, spring, summer or fall!!  My favourites aside from Tetley Orange Pekoe ( decaf) are Monk's Blend, and Nova Scotia Blue, which is a blueberry tea, from The Tea Brewery in Mahone Bay.

 

 

Post Script...I just love Sally's Blog, it is so encouraging for women, moms homeschoolers, anyone!  Her words are wise, uplifting and practical.
