I am a Grammy!

I became a grandmother this weekend!  Nathan Robert was born at 12:42 AM Sunday morning February 9th, to my amazing daughter.  He was a week overdue, and we all waited on pins and needles for his safe arrival.  I was blessed to be asked to be there to help encourage and support Robyn, and it was an amazing experience.  Yes, I have had three wonderful children, but this was so very different.  Watching my baby girl become a momma for the first time was breathtaking!  Nathan looks just like his daddy.

And I have to give my son in law credit.  He took the greatest care of Robyn, during her labour and the delivery of Nathan he was kind, and gentle and so caring.  He was absolutely in awe of Nathan and the look on his face was priceless.  Thankfully, Robyn had an amazing delivery, she laboured at home all day, we got to the hospital and Nathan arrived about 3.5 hours  and 3 pushes later.  Robyn amazed me with her quiet strength, and focus.  It was hard to see her in so much pain, but at the same time, I knew God was in that room with us and I knew she could do this.  I got to cut the cord once Nathan arrived safely.  The cord was around his neck when he was born, so it was cut very early, but after the flurry of his arrival, I got to cut it, as Robert was busy taking in the miracle that just happened.

Nathan has so much hair and was bright eyed and bushy tailed as soon as he was lying on his momma's tummy.  He weighed 7 pounds 1 oz and is 20 inches long.  I have taken to calling him Peeper before he was born, I nameed my babies before they were born (Critter, Pudge and Squidger respectively!) and since my daughter's name is Robyn, I felt peeper, since a baby bird peeps, was great!  And you know, I am having a hard time calling him Nathan!

Never would I have dreamt that this wee man would just have such a hold of my heart right away!  Robyn and Robert ended up staying an extra night in the hospital, as they awaited blood work for Nathan, and so I got to go up and give him lots of snuggles and help support both Robyn and Robert.  Mmmmmm, new babies smell so good, I forgot that amazing brand new baby smell!  And those tiny fingers and toes!  I just love being a Grammy already, and I know he will grow so fast, he has already made some tiny changes.  Not only am I over the moon with him, but I have so much love and respect for my daughter, she is my best friend and I am so thankful for her, for her friendship and for the close bond we share.

Welcome to the world baby Nathan!!
