AAAAAAAAA!!!! We are snowed in!! This is our second day of being snowed in and we hope the nice man with the plow comes by soon! The first storm the other day was a freak and unpredicted storm, and this one we knew about and prepared for. But we didn't prepare for this much snow!
The storm started on Friday night at around 9:00 PM, and the wind was howling again, we could hear the wind gusts coming before they hit the house! The sreens were rattling and the snow was scouring the house when we went to bed. When we woke up the next morning, the wind was still whipping through and the snow was swirling at the windows. I looked out, and noticed that either I had misplaced it, or someone had stolen our driveway during the night!!
It was all I could do to get the vans cleared out. There is another 300 feet of shared driveway to the road, plus the rest of our own driveway. Mike hasn't found out about who plows the driveway, and we are still snowed in!!! We didn't lose power this time and I was prepared ahead of this storm. We measured 40 cms of snow on our deck!
Mike ventured over to the neighbour and he told Mike he has called the man with the plow, but hadn't heard back yet. The road has not been plowed yet either..so there are not many getting out at this moment.
This is Devin's hut! The snow is too deep for him to wade up to it right now!
The poor birds were flying around looking for their breakfast, so I dug my way into the house and came back out to get the feeders cleaned off, so they could have something to eat. The blue jays made themselves scarce this moring so the juncos, mourning doves and chickadees were happy!

I spent a productive day making soap, which is harder now than when I was at my other house as I do not have the right space to set things up in. So it was all trekked up to the kitchen which was off limits part of the day. I am not going to be doing soapmaking as the business it was when I moved - it is just small batches for friends and family. That should be a bit less stressful!
The kids were in and out most of the day, only coming in to dry their mitts and hats, and get warmed up. Off they went again. You would think they would have the driveway shoveled by now......

Our first Maritime snowstorm
Wednesday was another dark and dreary late fall day here in Nova Scotia. The kids were excited about a few flakes that were falling and hoped there would be more. We worked away at some school work ( I have been lazy recently and they ahev been slacking -not good!) in the morning and just after lunch, I went to get the mail at the end of our road. It got very dark, and was already very windy. It was really gloomy out. And then it started to really snow. And blow. And I think I mentioned it snow...
Devin couldn't wait to get out in teh snow, but soon realized he would need a coat if he intended to do this much more
After supper, the power went out at around 6:45. I crawled upstairs trying to remember where I had the flashlight, as it is usually by my bed, but someone had moved it. Thankfully I already had candles lit, and we are using some of the battery operated tealights, which are great, btw! We even use them as nightlights when someone is scared of the dark.. and I don't mean me - it is my 6 year old! We enjoyed playing games by candlelight and I was working on stiching a sampler for a friend. Here is an important thing to remember - when there is a power failure and you are working by one candle like Caroline Ingalls, you cannot tell the difference from flourescent yellow thread and white thread!! Don't forget that! Oh yes, and also - fill the bathtub with water when it is stormy so you can still flush the toilets. Having lived with town water all my life, I forgot this!
Mike called from work saying he needed to back to work again at 2:00 AM for some problem with camera monitoring. So he decided to stay at work, and I decided to pray to not have a panic attack again. My pastor called, he lives just up the road, and he offered to come by if we needed anything, he is such a nice man!
The power was restored at about 10:45, and the kids were just getting to bed. The wind was just howling outside, and it was hard getting to sleep not knowing when Mike would get home. He arrived safe and sound, and had a long sleep in for most of the morning! Until Robyn and I went for a hike and found our property markers, at which point we had to get him up, or we wouldn't remember where they were!
We had just enough snow to keep things interesting for the kids, and they had a great time outside. I ventured out later in the day and collected pine and fir branches to put in my pot by the front door ( pictures on next post)and managed to not get impaled on the holly branches. The great thing about living here now is that we have lots of pine and fir trees for holiday decorating and we can cut down our very own tree this year!

Harvest swap!
Once again these photos are huge, I think it must be the settings on my daughter's camera, so just click on the photo and you can see the whole picture only not as big!
I just received my box of goodies from Linda, this week - the mail man dropped them off on Wednesday morning before our big snowstorm. As usual, I did a happy dance around the house whenever I get a box in the mail and of course the kids thought I was nuts! Linda lives in the Netherlands, and is still waiting for my box to arrive, as I had to send it surface mail, drat!! I think I might have gotten it there quicker if I just whipped down to the beach and launched it off at the wharf and pointed it in the general direction of Holland! Either that or I could have taken it to the shipyard and dropped it off on a container ship bound for Holland!
She sent me some really great things! In my box I received:

-handmade harvest tags
-handmade cards
-a box of chai tea
-tiny little pumpkins
-a tea cup covered in roses
-homemade potpourri
-handmade soap
-a tin of Dutch waffles - these are awesome! We used to buy these in Ontario at a farmer's market but haven't seen any here, so we were delighted to find these in the box!
Thank you so much Linda!! I can't wait until you get your box and hope it isn't much longer before it arrives!

Baby news!
No no, not me, though I would love to be having another little one!! My friend, Christine had her baby on Tuesday! The baby's name is Robyn Ashley, ( love this name, since I have a Robyn of my own) and she is 2 pounds 3 oz, a good weight for 28 weeks! Christine is having a rough time, she is apart from her dh, and really feeling alone and just wants to take her baby home. I think she would love some words of wisdom from anyone who has been through this!

An update, a request and a giveaway
I do not know what is going on with this blog tonight, but the pictures are very big (if you click on them you should be able to see the whole picture though) and I haven't been receiving notices that I have comments, and I haven't checked them either!! ARGHHH!!!!! I will be around to check out all your blogs soon!!
Just popping in to say that I am still here and I haven't been swept away into the ocean!
First of all, and very important and dear to my heart, is a prayer request for a very special person in my life Christine Currently, Christine is on strict hospital bedrest, as she is 27 weeks pregnant and while her baby is healthy and happy safe in her tummy, he or she is needing to stay there for as long as possible. Christine's body, however is saying,"We're ready to roll right now!"
This is her first baby, a much anticipated addition to her family, and this is certainly not the way she has figured things would go. Her dh, John, is back home holding down the fort, keeping the farm going, and is a 6 hour drive away. Christine is keeping her chin up and trying to be strong, but sometimes, it is hard to be positive when you are told all the things that could be wrong with your child, and could happen to your child, and then your dh is so far away. I am sure he is worried and missing her terribly too. Truthfully, she can deliver any day now, please join me in praying that her baby stays put for as long as possible, and for Christine's spirits to be positive despite the bedrest and being so far away from her dh!! Love you Christine, and it was great talking with you today!!
So, updates. Here is a photo montage of what has been going on here....
